The latest and greatest news comes from the Indian telecom industry. Two telecom companies, Reliance Jio and Airtel, have agreed to buy some spectrum in the 800 MHz band from Delhi, Mumbai and Andhra Pradesh. Geo has done the deal for about Rs 1,497 crore. As a result of the agreement, the company will provide better services to its customers in Andhra Pradesh, Delhi and Mumbai which Reliance Jio will get in the 800 MHz band.

After that, Geo will have an additional 7.5 MHz spectrum in Delhi, Mumbai and Andhra Pradesh circles. The company will mostly use it in Andhra Pradesh, which will be 3.75 MHz. In addition, 1.25 MHz will be used in Delhi and 2.50 MHz in Mumbai. Certainly due to the extra spectrum, Geo customers will be able to get better services in the future.

Regarding the deal, Reliance Jio says the addition of new spectrum will improve the company’s infrastructure and network capacity. After this additional spectrum, Reliance Jio will have 2X10 MHz spectrum in the 800 MHz band in Andhra Pradesh and Delhi circles and 2X15 MHz spectrum in the 800 MHz band in the Mumbai circle. The company claims that it will see greater strength in customer service in these three circles.

An exact timeline has not yet been shared as to when consumers will benefit from the deal. Geo said the trade agreement was in line with the spectrum trade guidelines issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DOT) and is subject to regulatory and legislative approval.
